I Left my Heart to Merlito...
1:29 AMAside from money which is a necessity for every out of the country trip, one must be very well ready and prepared for a long and endless roaming around the planet. Chaar! One of my weakness is walking around with no particular destination, more likely wandering till you're feet and legs starts to numb, only for you know that you are only getting started. Uuuurrrgghh...
Let's start walking...
For our first step... Destination BUGIS STREET
Bugis Street plays host to a wide variety of international and local products and services. Evolving a unique blend of retail concepts ranging from chic, hip and fashionable apparels and accessories to beauty services like manicures and hair extensions, shoppers will be constantly surprised with the ever changing product mix and its buzzing activities within Bugis Street.
Bugis Street is within easy walking distance from Parco Bugis Junction, Iluma at Bugis, Malay Heritage Centre and Bras Basah Complex, with easy access to the MRT, buses and taxis
Bugis is at the rear part of Intercontinental Hotel Singapore where we had a luxury stay on our second night at Singapore. After exploring our elegant shop house suite, the gang decided to go out and check out the street of Singapore.
Bugis Square Mall is just beside the hotel, it's a street type mall which is encapsulated making it an air-conditioned street mall, social studies! Bags, scarf, shoes and cutie trinkets are all available at the said mall, numerous restaurant as well are everywhere. We, decided to just look around the AC mall, since we want to have shopping at the Singapore's version of Divisoria... The Bugis Street!
We left the Bugis square and started the search of well-known-bugis-street. Armed with this huge SG map, we began to our journey. As we walked hand in hand, I was very amazed how clean the city was and how disciplined the people were. Until we saw a bunch of white collared men in circle at one of the sidewalk, as if they're having a meeting, uttering words I can't even understand. We continued walking, ignoring the meeting, then as we cross the street I noticed another group of men huddled as well. Since curiosity kills me, when we passed by I turn and did a quick glance. Aaaaaahhhaaaa!!! So you're the culprit of all the huddle and meeting at the streets of SG--the trash bin. Those street conference are smoking session of the smokey maniacs. I am a smoking maniac myself so I decided to have my nicotine intake at the next available bin. In every block trash bin are well maintained and used. I haven't seen any pile of trash at all anywhere.
Amazement turn into perspiration as Mr. Sun walk with us. Perspiration turns into irritation when we confirmed that we lost our way. We stopped to study our map again only for us to know that we turn the wrong block. Jeeezz! Not again... Because we turn in the wrong block, look what happened...
we're back to Manila baby! hahaha! |
Bugis Street, as you can see, is the largest street mall bazaar in Singapore. There are numerous shops inside this mall, and most shops are selling clothes which you can bargain on the price. There are also a lot of souvenir shops, be it a fridge magnet, paper weight, can opener etc... I bought two bags, a wallet, and souvenirs like shirts, fridge magnet and some shot glass.
After 3-4 hours of hopping shop to another shop, we decided to go back to our hotel and relax for a bit. However on our way back, we saw this vendor, selling bread with this thick filling. For a dollar, I took one bite and another one... hmmmm and another one.... the filling is actually an ice cream! Yummy!
Next day before leaving bugis area, we decided to try some singaporean food beside Bugis street...
Singaporean food is a bit pricey but they have big serving for everything. Too bad I am more of small intestines than big one. I love their fully flavored fried rice.
With aching leg muscles and soaring feet... I must say Walking around Bugis Street was a success!
